The Discipline of Rest

The Discipline of Rest

Feb 14, 2026

Rest is not collapse.

Rest is strategic.

There is a difference between numbing out and restoring yourself. Scrolling for two hours is not the same as lying down with intention. Complaining for an hour is not the same as processing and releasing.

True rest has three qualities:

  • It lowers your nervous system activation.
  • It reduces internal noise.
  • It leaves you clearer than before.

Ask yourself:

  • When was the last time I rested without distraction?
  • Do I only rest when I am forced to?
  • What does restoration actually feel like in my body?

Going to a retreat center can help you experience rest. The key is to recreate the experience once you return home.

You can give yourself permission and structure.

Schedule 20 minutes this week for deliberate rest.
No phone. No multitasking. No performance.

Just restoration.

with care,
